The Vitis Vinifera, or European grapes, stems from Asia and precisely the area among the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and Iran. Its cultivation dates back to over 8000 years and its cultivation was introduced into the Old Continent by the Phoenicians. Italy is the first in the world production of table grapes. The leader region is Puglia, with its 65% of the whole marketed grapes.
